Here we come

We have an appointment next Wednesday with Dr. Koong at Stanford. After looking at mom CT scans they are optimistic the "Cyberknife" will be appropriate for her treatment. http://www.cksociety.org/

The surgeon at memorial is a bit skeptical of the cyberknife in her case because he doesn't feel as though the CT shows the entire tumor. This of course is one of the issues which we will be discussing with him. Everyone is remaining optimistic and realistic.

Mom hasn't been feeling great the last few days. Her back and abdomen have been hurting which were her original symptoms that brought her to the hospital in the first place. It is the tumor which is causing the pain. However, she has been taking daily walks and today went to the beach with dad and Lexi for a walk along the path. We all know how much good a little fresh air can do and I think it's great that she is getting out and having a bit.

Day to day there isn't too much to talk about as not much changes. The posts may taper a bit until next week when we see the doc. I'm glad to hear so many people are taking the time to read this as it makes it more purposeful for me. Thank you for all your continued support and nice phone calls.

Hi Mark---YAY! We are so happy to hear you have an appointment now. Also happy to hear your mom was getting some fresh air at the beach. Thanks so much for keeping us all posted here. Its just a great way to keep the communication going. I told your Mom that Rick said he was praying for her. Then your mom and I both said "what goes around comes around." Amen to that. Thanks Mark.

Hi all,

You can actually see most of the tumor on the CT scan. I looked at the CT scan myself along with a pancreatic specialist here at BIDMC in Boston. We saw ALL the things on the CT that the surgeon saw when he looked inside. Also, there are other scans which can help define the tumor such as CTA. In addition, Dr. Koong at Stanford looked at her CT scan already and said she is a good candidate for cyberknife. So keep the faith!

Mark, the appointment your mom has is with the BEST. Dr. Koong is a leader in his field. If he is saying he is optimistic that the Cyberknife treatments are appropriate, I'm with him. Please keep in mind the surgeon at memorial is a "general" surgeon and cancer is not his expertise. Remember, also, the medical oncologist is in full support of having Stanford caring for your mom. As Nancy Ann stated...keep the faith. We are on your team
